These terms apply to the service operated at this site. If you run your own copy of this software, you are its operator: these are a starting point for your terms, not a rule imposed on you.
You are responsible for what your cameras capture and what you send through this service, including the recording and consent laws that apply where you and the people on camera live — they differ substantially between countries. Anything illegal where you are is not allowed here, and neither is using this service to harm or harass people.
Video and audio never reach the server: they travel directly between participants' devices. The server holds no recordings and no history. It necessarily sees, in memory, connection metadata — IP addresses, hashed group identifiers, camera names, and connection timing. Room names are never sent to the server at all, only a cryptographic hash of them.
Because there is no content to inspect, abuse reports cannot be verified by looking at what was sent. Access may be withdrawn from addresses or groups; with no accounts, enforcement is necessarily coarse.
The service is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind and no uptime commitment. It may be changed, interrupted, or discontinued at any time.
Do not rely on it for safety-critical monitoring, security, medical, or emergency purposes. It is a convenience for watching your own spaces, not an alarm system.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the service.
LANcams is free software under the AGPL-3.0-or-later. These terms govern the hosted service, not the software: you may run, study, modify, and self-host it freely.
